A historical overview of the discipline's evolution and science compliments chapters discussing experiments, science fair projects, and options for working in the field. Perfect for students considering entering the discipline. Problem-Solving Exercises in Physics: I have used the previous edition of this book for years and loved it.

I actually use it in my Integrated Physics and Chemistry class. While I don't use every chapter, many of the chapters like motion, force, energy, and electricity are ideal for a lower level physics class. They work problems just like the ones in the workbook.

Introductory Physics: A Model Approach. Only 4 left in stock more on the way. Karplus does an excellent job of explaining fundamental physics and chemistry concepts using the particle model of matter. As a high school science teacher using the modeling methodology, I found this book very helpful.

His discussion of energy is especially helpful and I like how he breaks things down into the micro vs macro domains.

The book also has very interesting side notes about the scientists who contributed to our current understandings of matter. The texts also reminds the reader that science is a process with many individuals contributing and using each other's ideas.

It is certainly is a book to get to start learning physics concepts. For the Love of Physics: When people decide they should learn about physics they typically do one of two things, if they are trying to teach themselves they go to a book by someone like Stephen Hawking or Brian Greene or if they are in a class they go to a book like Serway's introductory physics text. Both are a mistake. In the case of Steven Hawking or Brian Greene they will spend too much time trying to puzzle out the meaning of physics new enough it will likely be proven wrong anyways.

They are likely to leave understanding little about physics but the fact that it is complicated. In the case of Serway they are likely to spend too much time doing math that while important, is likely to chase them away from physics before they have any real understanding.

This book should come before any of those. Explanations of common every day events like Out of This World Guide to Physics: A quick intro to the fascinating world of physics.

Not only did my kids really enjoy this book, but it taught me about physics in a fun, interesting, clever manner. We really enjoyed reading it as a family. It shows how physics is a part of our everyday lives by relating it to such ordinary things.
